Classic cars in Gaza
Before the war in Palestine and Gaza in particular, the cars that were being driven around were fashionable and trendy, from Europe and home built. They had since been taken over by the jewish community/soldiers to use while patroling the area.
Some were given back and others destroyed. The owners were extremely upset that their dream cars were taken from them. But Mahfouz Kabariti decided to do something about his passion for vintage cars. He wishes to open a museum for vintage Palestinian Cars one day. He has several in his own garage but fears he cant stock any more due to a lack of space.
He has been renovating them for almost 20 years since his return to Gaza. In the video below you can see how he wants to collect, preserve and show the history of automobiles in Gaza, which i think is wonderful. He also thinks that this will create more jobs for young people as there is 70% unemployment and what better to do with your time than something creative and earn some money.
As he remembers only good thoughts with his vehicles and memories of days long gone, it is the same for me with my cooking. I cook with memories and with thoughts of good times. It is the only way to be authentic and do something with passion.
I hope you enjoy watching this as much as i did.
With Love, From Palestine
